It was our first time at La Tannerie, from when we arrived and until we left Ken and Jen were first class hosts. Nothing was too small for them, also there to help us if needed. The swimming pool was 5 stars, the gite very clean and spacious. Only a short walk into the town even though it felt you were in the countryside. They had a good supply of outdoor toys to use. Would highly recommend a stay to La Tannerie and this would not be our only stay here. Thank you Ken and Jen

An amazing two week holiday in September 2023. Jenny and Ken were the perfect hosts, nothing was too much trouble for them and their knowledge of the surrounding area very good. A very thoughtful welcome pack with essentials and yummy treats was awaiting us on arrival. The gite was very comfortable and clean with everything we needed. There were lots of outdoor games provided, we enjoyed table tennis and pétanque. The swimming pool was a delight well maintained and just what was needed on hot days and for fun. Looking forward to returning one day.

We’ve been to La Tannerie a few times before with previous owners and so after loving our time there, was excited to return with the new owners to our home from home. Jen and Ken did not disappoint and came out to welcome us as we arrived with hugs all round 😀 The gité (La Sècherie) had been refurbished since we last stayed, with a new kitchen and furniture and decorated throughout. Everywhere was spotless! There was a lovely welcome message and information book inside which I referred to throughout our stay when looking at places to go and things to do. We also had a lovely welcome pack with essentials and goodies to enjoy on arrival! The kitchen had all the equipment you need to self cater for the week including cutlery, knifes, pots and pans, mugs, plates, bowls, chopping board, cafetière etc. Even other sundries had been thought of like tea towels, kitchen towel, cling film, foil, ice bags etc. We had a private terrace area with. BBQ, table and chairs as well as a bistro set to enjoy our morning coffee at, there was even a herb garden to use if you are cooking. You also get an airer for drying off clothes and there are washing lines to use too if you make use of the washing machine! You are supplied with pool towels and bathroom towels and all bedding in the rooms. The beds are comfy and pillows great, with plenty of wardrobe space. The master bedroom had a dressing table and mirror, only thing pointed out by our teenage daughter was that the second bedroom could do with a mirror too for doing her makeup and hair 😊 There are hairdryers provided. One thing to be mindful of are that the stairs are steep so need to be approached carefully, I would say they are not easy to tackle if you are unsteady on your feet! The pool has also been refurbished and has lots of umbrellas and sun loungers. We took our own inflatables but there are some there as well as pool noodles for floating! There’s badminton, table tennis and a pétanque area to play on as well as lots of green space to stretch your legs. The location is fab with village shops, local market, restaurants and supermarket on your doorstep. Having a car to travel out to the lovely villages, markets, lakes is recommended. Jen knows the area well and had lots of recommendations too which was helpful. Overall a relaxing stay in the beautiful Chalais sunshine!

As a family of 2 adults and 1 teen this was a perfect holiday! There are so many beautiful places to visit in the area, recommend driving or hiring a car. Jenny & Ken have ensured the gites have everything you might need for your stay! The Welcome pack was so appreciated too. The gite was spacious and so comfortable, home from home with a lovely private terrace. Our hosts know the area well so had really useful tips and recommendations for places to visit, restaurants, markets and parking etc. The pool is gorgeous! Plenty of space, loungers & sunshades. The grounds are pretty and well maintained with garden games available. Thoroughly recommend La Tanerie for your holiday, whether as a family or a couple. See you again!

Two perfect weeks and we could’ve stayed forever. Jenny and Ken we amazing hosts, friendly, helpful and so thoughtful. The gîte was spotless with everything you could possibly need provided, the pool was fabulous and the location unbeatable - right in town close to the necessary supermarkets, bars and boulangeries, whilst still secluded, quiet and loads of space for the kids to run about. Nearby villages with loads of activities for those inclined, and plenty of shops and restaurants for those who aren’t. Just a fantastic holiday. My two boys want to go back every year. Some of our fellow guests had done just that.

We stayed at La Tannerie for a week and absolutely loved it, we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone for the location and the hosts, Jen and and Ken. They were perfect hosts, respected our privacy but also informed us of the many things to do in the area, and more than happy to make reservations on your behalf. The gite was well equipped, clean and spacious. It also had a shady terrace perfect for BBQing and apero! The pool area was the perfect place to relax. We had great fun playing badminton and table tennis too. Perfectly located in a town, close to amenities such as supermarket, Boulangerie, restaurants, it was so peaceful in the gardens. The Monday market was great. Lovely nights too close by. Although there are 2 other gites, it is so private and quiet but also perfect for more than 1 family! We are trying to convince our friends to join us for a week next summer! Further afield we visited Bordeaux for the day, aubeterre-sur-drone is a plus beaux village and worth a look, Brantôme is a fave of ours too. One word of warning make sure you pack lots of mosquito repellent!

Wonderful calm setting around a well maintained pool. Rooms were perfect for our family with all the extras we needed. Town only a 2 minute walk with everything our family wanted. Super friendly hosts Jen and Ken couldn't do enough for us. We will be back next year.

Some kind words from our guest book

Fiona Thompson – April 2024 – La Secharie

we  had fantastic holiday despite the weather gods being a bit unkind! Jenny and Ken are the perfect hosts and gave us lots of ideas for lovely places to visit. We liked the fact that the gite was on the edge of town and we could walk to the supermarket. Absolutely everything was provided including a welcome pack and multi socket extension leads – so useful. We explored the gorgeous countryside on our bikes using the recommended routes and enjoyed visiting Aubeterre, Brantome and St Emilion. The grounds and pool are gorgeous. Can’t recommend this place highly enough and would love to come back

Tracey Jolliffe – June 2023 – L’Atelier du Bouton

We have just had a lovely week in a gite at la tannerie. The gite was comfortable, we both slept very well We had everything we needed , it was very clean and when we arrived having left home at silly oclock we were welcomed with some lovely goodies in the fridge, meaning we could have lunch on our terrace before a few steps to a lovely pool, which in 32 degree heat was very much needed. The little town had everything we needed for an evening meal out or a visit to the supermarket. On Jenny’s and Ken’s helpful info folder we visited some beautiful places , I will not forget the hill of Aubeterre and the beautiful lake at lac Jamaye.
Jenny and Ken are lovely hosts and feel they have put a lot of effort into giving guests a lovely holiday.
Would go back in a heartbeat.

Vicky Moore – July 2023 – Les Baignades

This is our 4th visit to La Tannerie. It’s such a welcoming place and the new owners are extremely accommodating and helpful. We love the place- the Gites are really comfortable and very well equipped. The pool is fab. The grounds are really well kept and so pretty. There’s great games box and ping pong table and swings. The town is 2 minute walk away with supermarket, chemist, restaurants etc. we will definitely be returning.

Sally Richardson – August 2023 – La Secharie

Just back from fabulous stay here with our two boys aged 4 and 1. There are so many details that we really appreciated about the gites that we haven’t always experienced in France, for example multiple tea towels, pool towels included for no extra price, sharp kitchen knives, loads of great quality cooking utensils, pots and pans etc. We were amazed by the generous ‘welcome pack’, my partner so appreciated the cold beer after a 5 hour drive! Jen is a wealth of knowledge and had so many brilliant suggestions for us that we loved. She even booked the local restaurant for my partners birthday for us.
They are perfectly set up for young children – our place had a secure garden, brilliant high chair, stair-gate, plastic bowels and plates, and a baby monitor. Jen even lent us a paddling pool to put up near the pool. Jen and Ken are super sweet, with endless patience engaging out very chatty 4 year old in conversation!
I think it’s rare to find somewhere with so much beauty and space but just a short walk away from restaurants, shops etc. It was so lovely not to have to get in the car every time we needed something. A very special place.

Franchise Quivoron – July 2023 – Les Baignades

Ken and Jen are great hosts: the gites are suitable for family holidays with a secure swimming pool, large play area for children and various games provided. Thanks to them for their welcome, their kindness and their discretion. And for the gastronomic “attentions” upon our arrival in the house.
Address to remember to stay there with family and discover a beautiful region. Lots of activities in the surroundings: canoeing, lakes, playground with tree climbing….and small towns to visit, local markets
